Day 1 Unemployment.....

As you may know.....Since leaving AMEX to work on my comprehensives under better working conditions, I decided to go the contractor route by signing on with an organization that gets paid by the organization that places me into it. In other words, Co A needs worker....Co A pays Co B to find skilled worker (me). Co B takes cut of monies paid by Co A and pays worker the rest. This arrangement has its benefits (money, new working environment, & short term if turns out to be not a dream job)...but it also has the downside of no security.

Last Friday evening as I was working feverishly to finish my comprehensive rewrites.....I got a voicemail telling me my current contractual arrangement has fallen through. The project I was on had "lost its funding" and as a result the org. I was working at had to release a number of the contrators. I was one. The kicker?.....We were told Friday that Tuesday (yesterday) was our last day of work.

Now, thats okay......its part of the deal of working under contract. The part that really sucked for me though was that January I had just got benenfits. Medical, dental, vision. The documents telling me how all the programs worked, which doctors I could go to in order to get full coverage and the accompanying "official wallet cards" arrived oh.....about 10 days ago. So.....I of course have not had the chance to find out which docs were in my area....nor had I made appointments to see anyone yet.

yeah......shit out of luck.....all the little special wallet cards in the world could not get me into see all three types of docs by end of day Tuesday once I found out.

The other thing I had to consider was that last week I was out sick for 3 days (got that fuckin crud going around). When you do contract work, if you don't work, you don't get paid. I acually had to choose this Monday and Tuesday if I wanted to get two last full days in for my last check.....or take time off (not paid) to find DOCs and use my new found benefits before they didn't exist. Remember...yesterday was the last day of the month....and benefits usually run through the last day of the month you stop working. These two dates coincided for me. Yee-fuckin-haw! huh??

All this meaningless info leads to today.......Day 1 --> unemployment!

I also realized...this is the first day....IN TWO & 1/2 YRS that I have absolutely NO other pressing items that need to get done. I am NOT blowing off any writing that needs to be done for my PhD. I am NOT playing hooky from work. I am NOT running around keeping appointments. No lunch dates, pressies to pick up, no dogs to the vets, no birds wings & nails to get clipped. BUT....I am also NOT motivated in anyway what so ever !! LOL

so...what did I do all day?? NOTHING!..... okay ..well I did clip two of the dogs nails, ( 2 of the 4 dogs...not 2 nails ...come on peeps...Im not THAT lazy), looked at the bills needing to be paid, installed my instant message thingy on my BLOG, started some laundry, and realized how bad the house needs to be rescued from neglect of the last two & 1/2 years I've been concentrating on school. I think I got overwhelmed with that last item!

anywho...now that I think about it....I guess I'll finish the laundry...the other two dogs nails, do some internet shopping for dogs treats....and put all my clothes away that have piled up in the guest room. LOL

Peace out BF's.........check on me tomarrow to see if I got anything else done....I'm looking forward to installing my new scanner and photoshop bought as a reward for fininshing COMPS. :) .....If all goes well, I just might get out of bed before noon to do it.
